Yep, Miss Cramer and Miss Ford...having a good time at a waterfall....this picture was taken like the second week we were here.
Monday started out like most Mondays, tired teacher and rather tired kids. The teacher needs to appear happy and chipper…but really doesn’t want to at first…but some things were different about this Monday morning. First off we had a new student. TM was just booted out of Kindergarten because he was too smart for it. His dad came with him on his “first day” in 1st grade…granted I was rather tired, but for some reason seeing that really happy little boy, just made me happy. I greeted him with a smile and talked to his dad briefly. His dad asked permission to stay outside the window and watch my class for a little while. And I didn’t see any problem in that.
TM is actually a really funny little kid, I was told by Ashley the kindergarten teacher that TM was going to make me laugh…and my kids make me laugh in general…especially in social studies class…our class discussions are just made all the more hilarious when they are still stuck on the first question I asked them 10 minutes before. But out of no where after lunch on Monday TM piped up… “Teacher you…you are boss…and we…we are the kids…your students…we listen to you!” oh if only the last part was true…my kids do not listen to me…or to Evangeline…or really to anyone.
Monday was actually my best day this week…I was so happy for it to. It is nice to have one’s week start out so nicely. I mean it is bad to have a week that starts our horrid and stays horrid all week long. When I got back to my apartment I collapsed on my bed and slept for a whole hour…when I woke up I thought that it was morning…but it was only 7pm…so let us just say going to bed was totally out of the question.
Tuesday would probably have been better if I had gotten some sleep the night before…going to bed at midnight is probably not the smartest thing to do. Because teacher doesn’t always want to deal with her kids…cause they don’t listen…But somehow I made it through the day…I turned a lot of cards (I did on Monday too…but I didn’t have to use my voice quite as much as I did on Tuesday) and raise my voice quite a lot…but we still got through all of the subjects and I did get some books for my students…they had extra from the library that we were aloud to have for our classrooms…which is really nice.
I went shopping (even though I am broke…yeah just got paid…but put that in the safe) with Joan, Marla, and Raz…we had a lot of fun driving around in Joan’s parent’s car…laughing with and at each other…and generally enjoying our time off campus…away from our classrooms. Very nice.
Today was Library day, today was day from hell, and today was also known as Wednesday…ah beautiful Wednesday, the middle of the week…the day to sigh deeply and wonder where the first half of the week has gone. But today did not start out great. First off Emily turned off her alarm clock when it went off at 5:45 this morning. I did not wake up again until 7:30a.m. staff worship is at 8a.m. so I was feeling just a little bit on the stressed side.
Worship was well like worship…nothing all that different…it wasn’t until I was waiting for my teacher’s aid to come back with the photo copies for the math quiz that I always have at the beginning of math… she didn’t come…I have two different math groups that are going at the same time…and she teaches on of them. My group had a test and the other group had three pages of math work to do. I now found myself in a problem…somehow I had to go over the directions for the math test at the same time that I kept the other group quiet and worked with them on their math. Let me just say at every moment I got more and more angry…as I worked with my kids I started to think about what I would say to my teacher’s Aid when I finally found her…What was she thinking? Leaving the classroom when she had a class to teach? Making me teach both math classes at the same time? My anger was boiling…which I must say is never a good thing for a teacher…especially when she is teaching young children math or helping others with a test to get really angry and I can say that I was…Like I said before I had a whole list of things that I was going to tell my aid when I saw her… it was recess time and I finally got my class down to the gym and bumped into Mrs. McGuire along the way and asked her if she had seen my aid. She told me that she was in the office…I dropped my kids off at the gym and marched to the office…ready to blow up at her. But when I got there everything drained out of me…the copy machine had been acting up so she was flustered to get the copying done…and then as we were walking out of the office together she told me why she didn’t come back…she had to take a really sick little girl (a student of Miss Maggie’s) to the hospital…the little girl was shaking and had a high fever and purple lips and ice cold hands and feet…and when I heard that…I was like…well why was I so mad anyway…if the little girl didn’t go to the hospital she could have died…what was a little trial to me anyway…life was going to go on…whether or not if my students listened to me…or did well in their math.
The rest of the day was rather hard to deal with…I enjoyed social studies…cause my kids just make me laugh and it is really fun. Bible was all right…I just read to them out of the forever stories books…we are now on book 2 and are enjoying it greatly. The kids like to see the pretty pictures…they go “Oooo” and “Ahhhh” and “Teacher is that Satan or Jesus?” or “Is he crying?” so we have fun in those subjects.
At 5pm after I had completed my lesson plans for next week and changed out of my school attire into something a little more comfy…I trotted over to Gene and Peter’s apartment to study the bible with Gene and prepare for this weeks Sabbath school lesson. Now Gene is smart…a real genius of sorts and we got off into this discussion about the last three chapters of Daniel…o.k. maybe it wasn’t we…maybe it was Gene started telling me all about the theories of Daniel 11&12 and I just tried to keep up with him…I’m not sure if I remember anything that he said…but he had some great thoughts and points…I ate rice and homemade bread while we talked about movies and things we did when we were kids…then I noticed that it was late and that I really needed to get a few things done like grading…so I went on my way and told Gene that it was really fun to visit and study the bible.
So even though my day was really rocky I have had a nice evening.
